COVID-19 Impact on AHR

The Board of Directors decided at its June 10th meeting that because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty of the future with respect to restrictions on large gathering events that it would not be possible to hold our National Showcase Event in 2020. The event will be rescheduled for 2021, when we hope our lives have returned to a more normal routine.

The combined AHR and Haflinger Breeder’s Co-op (“HBC”) futurity that was to be held with the National Showcase has not been cancelled. We are working with the HBC to continue our partnership on the futurity with the event tentatively scheduled for the first weekend in October. Although this event is subject to less of the risks than the full National Showcase event, we will monitor restrictions on large gatherings events over the next few months and along with HBC will make a final decision on the event as new information becomes available.

AHR National Show 2020

In response to the questions on the AHR National Show for 2020:

The Board is exploring a couple of alternative possibilities for the show, both timing and location. We have been working to find locations all year that would accommodate a show with all disciplines of the breed being represented. This is not an easy task to find a location that will accommodate the classes in a reasonable time frame and include both the Pleasure/Sporthorse and Hitch horses. We expect to have more information at the Annual Meeting next month.

As we look forward to holding a National Show in 2020, now is a good time to volunteer to help with the show committee. Please submit your name and contact information (name, address, telephone and email) to A National Show or really any horse show cannot be the work of one or two people and be a success. This is especially true of a Registry-sponsored show, so everyone looking for a show should be looking at helping to make this possible.

Sue Casseday Knee Surgery

As many may have already seen on Sue’s Facebook posts she is about to undergo knee replacement surgery in March. Originally, Sue was going to have both knees done at the same time, but, plans have changed, and she is going to continue to hide her secret identity as Wonder Woman and only have one knee done at a time. Sue, it is too late on keeping the Wonder Woman identity under wraps, we have all known it for years based on everything you do for the Registry, your family, and the community you live in. The first thing to address is to remind everybody to keep Sue in your thoughts and prayers for the surgery to be fully successful and for a speedy recovery.

The question on everyone’s mind is what that means for processing papers and paperwork for the Registry. Actually, the Board believes that Sue’s surgery will have no impact on the processing of any paperwork. Sue has been working hard to complete all registration and transfer documents received by the Registry before she goes in for surgery. Second, we will actually have more of Sue’s time for a few weeks while she recovers and cannot work at her regular job. Sue is not one to watch the soaps all afternoon. So, we do not see any impact with the processing of paperwork at this time.

On behalf of all the Board of Directors, all the members of the Registry and myself, Sue best wishes with your surgery and all our thoughts and prayers for a speedy and full recovery.

Chuck Hendershot
