How does DNA testing keep the studbook pure?
Parentage proof of foals has caught a few rare cases of human error such as the wrong sire or dam name being written on the application for registration. It also catches those sneaky foals that live in a herd and that swap dams with another foal born on the same day to a different mare just to fool their unsuspecting owners. It also confirms when the 2-year old stud colt jumps the fence and “visits” the mares in the next pasture. In most cases, parentage qualifies on the first test.
