CLARIFICATION OF SPRING SALE CATALOG NO SALE PROVISION It appears that the wording in the Spring Sale catalog for the 31st Annual American Haflinger Annual Spring Sale was confusing concerning the “NO SALE PROVISON” for the sale. We are following the same policy that we have for the last several years in that all consignors that are offering registered Haflingers for sale will be allowed to establish a reserve price prior to the horse entering the sale ring. This price will be provided to the auctioneer prior to any bidding taking place on the horse. If the horse does not bring at least the amount of the reserve, the seller has the option to “NO SALE” the horse. The seller may let the horse sell for the lower price, if they chose to do so. However, they are under no obligation to sell below the reserve. When the bidding on a horse exceeds the sale reserve established by the seller, then the horse will sell without any reservation on the day of the sale.

The decision was made several years ago to include a “NO SALE” provision to encourage breeders and Haflinger owners to bring their best stock to the sale without having to sell the horse for too low a price. We believe that this provision benefits both the buyer and seller as we are able to encourage sellers to bring better horses for the buyers to choose from on the day of the sale. Since the NO SALE provision was established, over 90% of the horses presented for sale have sold in the ring on the day of the sale and more of our breeders and trainers are offering better horses for sale because they know that they can protect their investment in a reasonable and fair manner.

Finally, just to be clear. The American Haflinger Spring Sale for 2019 will have the NO SALE provision in place following the same policy that we have for the last three to four years.
